Military judges testify in ‘parallel structure’ investigation

A number of judges serving in high military courts have testified in an investigation launched by the Ankara Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office into claims of the presence of a “parallel structure,” the semi-official Anadolu Agency reported on Nov. 24.Accompanied by their lawyer Fidel Okan, the judges gave their testimony at an Ankara courthouse on Nov. 21, the agency reported, without elaborating on the number or the identity of the judges.
A prosecutor from the Office in Charge of Investigating Crimes Committed against the Constitutional Order summoned his clients as “witnesses” in the investigation concerning the “parallel structure,” Okan stated on Nov. 24.
“Parallel structure” is a term frequently used by both the government and state officials to refer to followers of the U.S.-based Islamic scholar Fetullah Gülen, who they claim formed a “state within a state” aimed at toppling the elected government.
