Medea is a tragedy theater play that takes place in present-day Greece and Anatolia.

Istanbul’s Sabancı University Drama Club is preparing to stage its first English-language performance in Turkey, the Ancient Greek tragedy “Medea.”

The play will be performed at the Performing Arts Center on Dec. 12 at 8 p.m.

The director and cast are members of the drama club SU Oyuncuları who are hoping to reach out to international exchange students in Istanbul. Members of the club said one of its objectives was to set an example for university drama clubs to be involved in multicultural and international events.

With “Medea,” SU Oyuncuları takes a contemporary and inquisitive approach to an Ancient Greek tragedy that is based on the events of its era, according to members of the ensemble.

Foreign students in Istanbul, international exchange students, and the students of foreign-language high schools are invited to the performance. Admission to the performance will be free.

Following the performance in Istanbul, SU Oyuncuları will perform in Austria as part of the Medea European Tour.
