Man who raped niece in eastern Turkey caught by teachers amid family’s silence

A man who raped his 12-year-old niece for four years has been caught thanks to the girl’s teachers, while the man’s family failed to file a criminal complaint.

“I have been raped. Why does everyone behave badly against me? I want to die,” said an anonymous note found in an imam hatip middle school in the Kars province in eastern Turkey earlier this year.

The students found the note and gave it to their teachers, who discovered that it was written by a 14-year-old girl in the school.

When asked about the note, the girl said she had been raped by her uncle for the past four years. “He began raping me in our barn four years ago. Then four students from my school also raped me,” she told the police.

The investigation launched by the Kars Chief Prosecutor’s Office was concluded last week and the 28-year-old man was charged with child abuse and kidnapping.

“I was in military service for a long time and I had sexual desires when I returned home. She appeared attractive to me but I did not rape her. She allowed me to do it,” the man told the police, although medical reports proved rape.

Even though no family members had filed criminal complaints, the Kars First Heavy Penal Court launched the public trial by accepting the indictment.

The first hearing is scheduled to be heard on Nov. 7.
