Kenan Evren, who became Turkish president after leading the 1980 military coup, has asked doctors during medical visits to let him die.

The 96-year-old’s mental health is poor, and he is now receiving treatment at the GATA military hospital, according to reports.

Evren has been on trial for the 1980 coup and faces a possible life sentence. State authorities, however, have allowed Evren to miss hearings due to his deteriorating health.
