Legal process needs be awaited: ODTÜ

ANKARA
Middle East Technical University (ODTÜ) rector Ahmet Acar has said the legal process should be finalized for the road that is planned to be built on a part of the university’s campus.

Speaking on private broadcaster CNN Türk on Sept. 9, Acar said it was not only ODTÜ that was a part of this plan, and that the university should not solely be considered as an addressee.

“More than half of the itinerary concerns the 100. Yıl and Çiğdem neighborhoods. The 400 meters part of the road is a protected site and a precondition for the road to pass from ODTÜ is the approval of the construction plan made to protect the area,” he said.

The road decision was made in 2007, but the legal process has yet to be completed.

Acar said the university was against a second road construction project that is set to divide its campus into two and that they had proposed a tunnel project instead, which had not been accepted.
