Job seekers apply to Tenor Wanted theater poster in Turkey

'Tenor Wanted'

Twelve people applied for a job after seeing a poster for a theater play called “Tenor Wanted” in the Black Sea province of Trabzon, Funda Özkan of daily Akşam reported yesterday.

The incident was revealed during an interview with State Theaters Director Lemi Bilgin.

State Theaters staged the musical comedy "Lend Me a Tenor" by Ken Ludwig in Trabzon. The play's name was translated into Turkish as "Bir Tenor Aranıyor" (Tenor Wanted) and posters were put up around the city with the play's name written on it.

"Twelve people applied to the theater, thinking it was a real job ad," Bilgin said. "One applicant said he did not know what a tenor was but he was willing to do any job."

Bilgin said the incident might be initially amusing but also displayed the desperation of the unemployed.
