Jailed mayor Kocadon released

Seven people including Mehmet Kocadon, former mayor of the Aegean province of Muğla’s Bodrum district, were released on Sept. 7. They were demanded to be charged with 6 to 80 years of imprisonment on the claims of bribery, irregularity and corruption. Only one arrested convict remained pending in the case.
The Turkish Interior Ministry ordered the dismissal of Bodrum Mayor Mehmet Kocadon, who was held under arrest on fraud charges since June.

Units from the Muğla Anti-Smuggling and Organized Crime Department conducted an operation at the Bodrum Municipality in June and six people, including Kocadon, were arrested on charges of “bid rigging, misconduct in office, violating the privacy of information, and creating a criminal organization for the purpose of engaging in criminal activity.”

The Turkish Interior Ministry had ordered the dismissal of Bodrum Mayor Mehmet Kocadon on Aug 5.
