A wax museum will open in İzmir in 2013. The museum will display the statues of famous politicians, artists and scientists.

The museum will be made by Konak Municipality. Speaking to Anatolia news agency, the municipality president, Hakan Tartan, said: “We have opened many boutique museums such as mask museum, kids’ museum. Those museums are attracting many visitors.” Noting that they aim to contribute to art and culture in İzmir with the newly opened museums, Tarta said they also want to establish radio, ceramic and miniature museums in İzmir. Tartan said they would like to continue launching a wax museum, which will be like Madame Tussauds in London.

“We will make the famous politicians and artists in the world,” he said, adding that wax museums attracted attention from the whole world. “We will make Recep Tayyip Erdoğan’s, Süleyman Demirel’s and [Bülent] Ecevit’s wax sculptures for the museum.” There will also be famous poets and writers such as Victor Hugo and Dario Moreno. “The museum will be an international one and the collection will also be international collection,” added Tartan. The museum will contain 50 to 60 wax sculptures and will open by 2013. Other museums of Konak Municipality aim to revive social life at the area. “We would also like to establish a female artists’ museum, which will explain women’s place in the social life with photographs.”
