İzmir hosts the first Mediterranean fest

The western province of İzmir will welcome the best in cinema from around the Mediterranean in November with the first Mediterranean Film Festival.

Many artists from both Turkey and abroad will attend the event, which will include both feature-length and short films, as well as documentaries, İzmir Metropolitan Municipality said in a written statement.

The movies will compete for the “Flying Fish” award, which is a symbol of Mediterranean Culture and symbolizes the relationship of man with the sea.

The festival will run from Nov. 1 to 9.

There will also be awards for best movie, best director, best actress, best artist, as well as a special jury prize.

The Cinema Writers Foundation will also deliver a best movie award as part of the festival in which there are two categories, competitive and uncompetitive.

Application to the festival

Movies that hit the screens before 2012 will not be accepted for the competition. To apply, the producers of prospective festival entries must send three copies of their films’ DVDs in the PAL format, along with printed material about the movie, such as a press kit and the brochures. Applications will be accepted at the İzmir Arts Center - Culture Park until July 19.
