Istanbul police alerted over banner tied to camping cylinder

ISTANBUL

A banner tied to a camping cylinder that was hung on a fence on the side of the D-100 highway in Istanbul created panic early on Jan. 7.

Police cordoned off the area and closed the road to traffic.

Bomb squads detonated the cylinder in a controlled operation.

The road was opened to traffic after it was determined that there were no explosives.
