Istanbul mayor promises new transportation projects

Plans to build 19 gondola (cable car) and airway projects, as well as a parking lot project, have arrived at the Istanbul Greater Municipality (İBB) council for approval, Mayor Kadir Topbaş has said during an election rally.“Nineteen gondola and airway projects and a parking lot project for 100,000 vehicles, which had been at the construction commission, have come to the council,” Topbaş said in Istanbul’s Esenler district on Feb. 12 ahead of the March 30 local elections.
A gondola is planned to connect Mecidiyeköy on Istanbul’s European side to Altunizade on the Anatolian side, he added.
“From Mecidiyeköy you will cross the Bosphorus in 15 minutes to reach Altunizade and Çamlıca. The gondola will be able to carry 6,000 passengers in an hour,” Topbaş said.
