The Internet is like the "Beast of the Last Days” – the "Dabbe'tül Arz" in Muslim belief – and constitutes a sign that the time of judgment is coming, according to Üsküdar University rector Nevzat Tarhan, daily Cumhuriyet reported.

During a speech to the Marmara University Theology Faculty, Tarhan drew a parallel between the Internet and the Beast of the Last Days since both of them “exist everywhere and writhe on the ground.”

Internet connections pass underground through fiber-optic cables and follow a sinusoidal frequency which makes it appear to writhe like the beast.

The rector made the comments in a speech titled "Changing World, Developing Technology and the Position of the Youth.”

Theologians have different points of view about the nature of the beast.
