Guard working at Qatar Embassy in Ankara injured in gun attack

ANKARA
A security guard working at the Qatar Embassy in Ankara was injured in a suspected gun fight between two groups on late Dec. 29.

The guard, identified as Oktay Gürbüz, was injured by bullets fired from a private car when left his office to warn a driver who had parked in front of the embassy building at around 10.45 p.m.

The 47-year-old Gürbüz was not gravely injured in the attack, as he was shot in the shoulder and hip.  He gave his testimony at the police station after being released from hospital.

Police have launched an operation to capture the suspects. No terrorist link has been found in the attack, according to initial reports.

Meanwhile, security camera footage examined by the police showed that the assailant arrived at the scene in a cab and opened fire toward the embassy after having a chat with a second person in another car, Cihan News Agency has reported.

Police seized two pump rifles and empty shell casings from the scene, and the assailant fired his gun three times, it added.
