Greek Cyprus, France hold drill

NICOSIA
Greek Cyprus and France have held a joint research and rescue exercise in the north of the island, local daily Famagusta reported yesterday.

In a statement, Defence Minister Demetris Eliades said the exercise was a success, adding that it was the first time such an exercise of such an extent takes place. A Greek Cypriot helicopter landed on a French warship during the exercise, in a scenario which involved a maritime accident and ship piracy response practice in Cyprus’ Exclusive Economic Zone. Greek Cyprus participated in the exercise with two ships and two helicopters, while France participated with its frigate FORBIN and one of its helicopters stationed in the port of the south coastal town of Larnaca.
