Following two police crackdowns loaded with tear-gas, protesters resisting the demolition of Taksim’s Gezi Park at the heart of Istanbul are now manufacturing their own hand-made gas masks.

In what could become a must-have accessory for every Istanbul local, the protesters have invented masks by diagonally cutting big plastic bottles of 2.5 liters, placing an air pollution mask inside, and fixing the whole together with an elastic.

For those who need a hand, the occupiers have also stuck posters with instructions on the trees. They also advise bringing vinegar against the effects of the tear-gas.

As the protests entered their third day, Istanbul police had organized a dawn raid and once again fired gallons of tear-gas. In the end, the raid only seems to have increased the determination of the activists, who are now taking their own precautions.

@Faruk I am a ex army man and a 100% K.ata Turk supporter!! It is your sick mind that supports hooligans and trouble maker, I support law and order!! (something I am sure you will never understand) @T.C. These are just trouble makers and not protesters,as for the AK party I would never vote for them but this is not so much about that but about jobs for people, businesses and moving Turkey forwards,we can not live in the past. All big cities need buildings, dont like it live in the country.

@ John Albay, you proudly talk about your other posts and how you put your apparent fellow citizens down for standing up for the injustice occurring here. This is much bigger than saving the park, the people are finally starting to come together and stand as one against Erdogans blatant disregard for the people's will. The A.K.P are also selling parts of the 'Ataturk Orman Ciftligi' to the good ol' U.S of Ameika. Will you be one of ones with no cultural self respect and support this to? Sad!

John, shame on you Gülen/Erbakan AKP member! Your warped mind cannot see anything but enemies everywhere, even though you have no proof of your ignorant statements.

I am with you in spirit, protestors!! I am down south in the country and wish I could join you! May you protect our Mother Nature's creatures when Mr Erdogonemad clearly has no love for nature - only money, power and greed.

As I posted before these are the left wing hooligans and I hope our police force puts them all in jail and before a judge. These fools give our city a bad name everywhere.
