Former Mersin mayor wanted in ‘bid-rigging’ operation

The former metropolitan mayor of the southern province of Mersin, Macit Özcan, is reportedly wanted by the police as part of a corruption probe against the previous executives of the municipality.

The Mersin police department launched the operation in the early hours of the morning on March 24. Some 40 suspects, including Özcan’s son, İlker Özcan, and his two brothers, Sacit and Tacit Özcan, were detained in the alleged bid-rigging operation. Özcan, the former metropolitan mayor from the main opposition Republican People’s Party (CHP), was still being sought, as he could not be found at his known addresses.

In addition, former deputy mayor Ersan Ersan was also detained within the scope of the operation.
Security forces reported the operations were continuing in different locations.
