Former envoy in US becomes Generali chair

Turkey’s former ambassador to the United States, Namık Tan, has become the new chairman of Generali Sigorta, the Turkish unit of one of Europe’s leading insurance companies, Generali Group, the company announced in a written statement Feb. 9.

Tan completed his diplomatic work in March 2014 and returned to Turkey after a four-year stretch as Ankara’s top diplomat in Washington. He has been working in the Generali Group ever since.

Tan started his career as a bureaucrat after his graduation from Ankara University’s Faculty of Law. He was enrolled in his first job in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in 1996.

The company employs 77,000 people in more than 60 countries, and it has around 65 million customers in total. It has operated in Turkey for 150 years.
