Former coup plot suspect colonel found dead in Bodrum

Retired Colonel Halil Yıldız, who was among the suspects of the Balyoz (Sledgehammer) coup plot case, has been found dead at his home in the Aegean province of Muğla's Bodrum district.

Sixty-year-old Yıldız was acquitted in the Balyoz case by the Supreme Court of Appeals on Oct. 9, as the court approved the convictions of 237 other suspects.

Neighbors found Yıldız’s body in the garden of his home and called medical teams who later pronounced him dead.

The former colonel's body was transferred to the Forensic Institute in Muğla for examination into the cause of his death.

One neighbor told reporters that he had found Yıldız lying on the ground in a pool of blood and called the police.
