Former AKP lawmaker arrested over Gülen links

MERSIN
Former AKP lawmaker arrested over Gülen links A court in the southern province of Mersin ordered the arrest of former ruling Justice and Development Party (AKP) lawmaker Ahmet Tevfik Uzun on May 10, as part of an investigation into the Gülen movement, widely believed to have been behind the July 2016 coup attempt.

Uzun was detained early on May 8 over suspected links to the network.

He represented Mersin in Turkey’s 24th parliament as a lawmaker from 2011 until 2015.

Separately, another former lawmaker from the AKP, İdris Şahin, was detained in August 2016 as part of a probe into FETÖ, but was released pending trial in September.
