Forged license plate spotted when two trucks parked side by side

A Turkish man was detained on March 14 for putting a forged number plate on his truck in Turkey’s Central Anatolian province of Konya.

The forgery was exposed when passers-by noticed two trucks, a red and a white one, with identical plate numbers parked side by side on a street in Konya’s Selçuklu district, according to a report by İhlas News Agency.

Police was called to the scene by locals and after carrying out a brief investigation on the two license plates with the digit-letter combination of “17 KK 144” they found out that the plate on the white truck was a fake one.

The police called the owner of the white truck, a carrying contractor, to the scene. It was also understood that an official order by traffic police to tow away the truck had been issued.

The owner of the white truck was fined 6,002 Turkish Liras ($1,097) for using a fake license plate and defying an order of the traffic police.

He was taken to a police station to face prosecution over the forgery of official documents.
