Five Turkish nationals detained in Qatar for staging Gezi protest

DOHA – Anatolia News Agency
Qatari police detained five Turkish citizens in Doha today, after a group staged a protest against the Turkish government’s response to the Gezi Park demonstrations, in the garden of a hotel.

The protesters chanted slogans against the Turkish government and Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdoğan. They then attempted to make press statements, an act that is forbidden in Qatar. The subsequent police intervention ended with the detention of five protesters.

The detainees will be held in custody until June 20 and their deportation will be evaluated, according to reports.
