Fire starts in historic Tophane district

A fire started last night in the historic district of Tophane in Istanbul, private broadcaster NTV reported on its website.

The fire originated in a nargile cafe, and soon spread to cafes near by.

Firefighters arrived at the scene immediately, but the fire took a long time to extinguish.

Efforts to completely put the fire out continue but the blaze has now been contained.
