A fire broke out at a prison in the Ceyhan district of the southern province of Adana at around 5 p.m. this evening, leaving several people injured.

The fire has been taken under control, according to Ceyhan district governor Gürbüs Karakuş.

"Seven inmates, who were affected by the smoke, were taken for treatment at the Ceyhan Public Hospital," he said.

An inmate who had been sentenced for drug-related offences, reportedly set fire to beds in the prison's juvenile wing. Ambulances and firefighters were immediately sent to the prison.
