Eyup Asik who served in junior coalition partner Motherland Party (ANAP) since 1983 joined opposition True Path Party (DYP) yesterday. Asik resigned from his ANAP after criticizing ANAP leader Mesut Yilmaz.

Asik attended DYP's group meeting at Parliament on Wednesday with DYP leader Tansu Ciller. During his short statement at the meeting, Asik said: "I join DYP without making any political bargain." He also stated that he has no intention to be elected as a deputy again. Stating that Turkey is very badly administrated Asik said: "there is no reason for Turkey to go through such a crisis. The only reason is the bad administration of governing parties."

Saying that there is a political disenchantment among people, Asik stated that he made a hard decision in an effort to contribute efforts to save Turkey's future and joined DYP.

DYP leader Ciller said that DYP became the address of unification of center right politicians and Asik's decision to join her party marked this fact. She congratulated Asik for his decision.

Asik's move increased DYP's seats to 81 in Parliament. ANAP currently has 84 seats.
