Ernani opera on stage in Turkey 170 years on

Ernani opera on stage in Turkey 170 years on Italian composer Giuseppe Verdi’s “Ernani” opera, which was first staged in Turkey in 1846 at the Naum Theater by Italian artists, will be staged once again for the first time in 170 years. 
According to a statement issued by the Istanbul State Opera and Ballet, the first performance will be given on Nov. 26 at the Süreyya Opera Theater in Kadıköy,  

The performance of “Ernani,” Verdi’s first international work, is directed by Kuzman Popov and choreographed by Rumjana Popova, with an orchestra conducted by Borislav Ivanov and Roberto Gianola. 

It was first performed on March 9, 1844 and was revived countless times during its early years. It became Verdi’s most popular opera until it was superseded by “Il Trovatore” after 1853. In 1904 it became the first ever opera to be recorded in its entirety.

The performance in Istanbul will feature Fabio Andreotti, Ali Murat Erengül, Yoel Keşap, Efe Kışlalı, Bülent Külekçi, Murat Güney, Cengiz Sayın, Suat Arıkan, Kenan Dağaşan, Zafer Erdaş, Gökhan Ürben, Perihan Artan, Evren Ekşi, Burçin Savigne, Deniz Yetim, Banu Ergün, Pınar Koç, Serkan Bodur, Engin Yavuz and Cengiz Arslan.
 
After the first performance on Nov. 26, it will also be on stage on Nov. 30, Dec. 2, 3, 13, 15, 16 and 17.
