DemGoodCoffee: Encouraging dialogue between hearing-impaired persons and hearing persons

DemGoodCoffee: Encouraging dialogue between hearing-impaired persons and hearing persons DemGoodCoffee became the fourth Changemaker of the eighth season of the Sabancı Foundation Turkey’s Changemakers Program.

DemGoodCoffee is a coffee shop operating under the Dem Foundation, whose aim is to realize empathy-based social initiatives and social responsibility projects.

DemGoodCoffee blends deaf and hearing-impaired culture with coffee culture. With the power of coffee that encourages dialogue, DemGoodCoffee questions the “pity feeling” toward people with disabilities in an unusual manner.

At the same time, DemGoodCoffee is a multi-purpose social sharing center. A part of the team working in DemGoodCoffee is formed of hearing-impaired persons. DemGoodCoffee also offers Turkish sign language courses to hundreds of people.

DemGoodCoffee followed a dream. It encouraged the emergence of dialogue between hearing-impaired persons and hearing persons. DemGoodCoffee has paved the way for hundreds of people to learn sign language and experience life differently. It developed a new model in civil society. DemGoodCoffee created a huge difference in the lives of hearing-impaired persons and hearing persons.
