Defense firm gets higher quality mark

ANKARA - Anatolia News Agency
One of the leading companies in the Turkish defense industry, Aselsan, has been awarded a third maturity level in “Capability Maturity Model Integration (CMMI),” paving the way for the company to bid on foreign military tenders.

All the functions of the Defense Systems Technologies (DST) division of Aselsan – systems, software, hardware and mechanics design and development – comply with CMMI models, according to company officials.

The appraisal, which confirms the competency of Aselsan’s management system, will contribute to the competitiveness of the company and increase foreign sales, they said.

The activities of the DST division span systems regarding air defense, command and control, fire support, weaponry, unmanned devices, naval activities, underwater acoustics and coastal and border security.

Aselsan also has ISO 9001, NATO AQAP 2110 and 2210 quality certificates.

Reassurance of competency

CMMI appraisals are regarded as a reassurance of the competency of firms active in research and development into new products to meet customer demands.

Aselsan’s two other divisions, Microelectronics, Guidance & Electro-Optics and Radar, as well as Electronic Warfare & Intelligence Systems, were previously awarded CMMI third maturity levels.
CMMI, a process improvement approach, was developed by professionals from the industry, the U.S. government, and the Software Engineering Institute (SEI) at Carnegie Mellon University.
