Washington- Reuters The World Cup may have soccer fans around the globe worked into a frenzy but Americans are largely in the dark about the international tournament, according to a new poll. A Harris poll of 1,000 adults conducted between June 17-22 showed while 74 percent of Americans said they had heard about the World Cup only 52 percent knew it was a soccer competition. A Harris poll of 1,000 adults conducted between June 17-22 showed while 74 percent of Americans said they had heard about the World Cup only 52 percent knew it was a soccer competition. Even fewer Americans have actually tuned into the tournament, the poll said. Only 19 percent said they had watched a game on television and almost half of these people said they did not enjoy it, the poll said.
