A bomb exploded in the Istanbul neighborhood of Şişli early Tuesday. No one was injured.

The bomb was placed in front of an Internet café in the Örnektepe area on Etibank Avenue by unidentified people, causing minimal damage. Police are investigating.

Meanwhile, a group of people damaged a bust of Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, the founder of the Turkish Republic, by throwing a Molotov cocktail Monday night in Istanbul’s Maltepe district.

A group of 20 people closed the road to traffic on Mesut Avenue in the Gülensu neighborhood and marched to Gülsuyu Square. In the meantime, they threw Molotov cocktails randomly into the streets of the neighborhood. Witnesses said the bust of Atatürk and the Turkish flag were both missing from the square after police intervened. Investigators marked the ground where the bust was supposed to be “evidence.”

The same bust was also attacked last year when a group of people started throwing Molotov cocktails in the same neighborhood.
