Death toll rises to eight in PKK Diyarbakır car bomb attack

The death toll in a car bomb attack staged by the outlawed Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) against a police station in the Çınar district of the southeastern province of Aug. 15 has risen to eight with the death of another civilian.Cleaning worker Mehmet Kılıç, who was heavily wounded in the attack, succumbed to his injuries at a military hospital on Aug. 16, bringing the death toll to eight.
According to initial inspections, the truck used in the attack was seized from the southeastern province of Mardin, after which it was loaded with more than 10 tons of explosives. The blast created a seven-meter-deep hole in the road.
Meanwhile, one suspect was detained in an investigation into the attack as part of the investigation.
Five police officers were killed in the attack when PKK militants detonated the bomb-laden truck outside the Murat Uçar Regional Traffic Inspection Station in the Şükürlü village located between Diyarbakır’s Çınar and the Bismil districts.
