Aydınlık puts two photos, which were taken in 1923 and 2012 side by side.

Daily Aydınlık published a controversial comparison of two photographs on its front page yesterday.

The daily put two photographs together which were taken in 1923 and 2012 and asked, “Which one suits us better?”

In the first photograph Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, the first president of Turkey, is standing up with Prime Minister Fethi Okyar while their wives are sitting in front of them in chairs.

The second photograph, which was taken Feb. 21, shows current President Abdullah Gül and Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdoğan sitting in chairs while their wives are standing up.

Both Gül and Erdoğan are not wearing ties while Atatürk and Okyar are wearing ties, but the daily draws special attention to their wives, claiming their position shows the transformation of Turkey.
