Contractor’s property seized in Van

A court has seized the property of a contractor whose buildings cause 54 deaths in Van.
Some 54 people died in Sevgi Apartment during the 7.2 quake in Van. The apartment was contracted by Salih Ölmez.
Meanwhile, a 5.0-magnitude aftershock hit the eastern Turkish province of Van Nov. 29 in an area already ravaged by two deadly earthquakes. There were no casualties or damages reported.
The tremor hit soon after midnight, sending the region’s residents into panic. Many of them still live in tent camps since an earthquake Oct. 23 killed more than 600 people, the Anatolia news agency reported.
The Istanbul Seismological Institute said the magnitude of the tremor was 5.0, and local authorities said there were no injuries or damage reported.
“Sixteen aftershock quakes ranging between [magnitude] 2.8 and 3.5 happened in the area on Tuesday night; however, none of them were abnormal,” said Doğan Kalafat, director of the institute.
