A construction worker sustained injuries when a building undergoing renovation collapsed in Istanbul’s central Nişantaşı neighborhood on April 12.

Police said a 43-year-old construction worker, identified as Semih Yöndem, was wounded after being trapped under the wreckage. Yöndem was promptly brought to Şişli Etfal Hospital in the vicinity.

Ambulances and police teams were dispatched to the area as an investigation to determine the cause of the collapse began.

The collapse in Nişantaşı is the latest in a series of incidents, as an empty, five-story building collapsed on April 8 in the Şehit Muhtar neighborhood of Istanbul’s Beyoğlu district, near touristic Taksim Square. Two other empty buildings have also collapsed in the same district in recent months.

A wall in Istanbul’s historic Gülhane Park also collapsed on April 10, killing two people and injuring five others.
