A street cleaner in the southeastern province of Adıyaman was awarded with two rings for delivering a case filled with 1.5 kilograms of golden rings that he found on the street.

Abuzer Çelik, a sanitation worker for the municipality of Adıyaman, found a bag left on the street full of jewelry while sweeping the street. He delivered the bag full of golden rings to the police officers immediately.

“I gave the golden rings to the police because I did not know who they belonged to. I turned them in because it would have been haram [forbidden by religion] to take it. I have six children and I am not rich, but I don’t use money that I do not earn,” Çelik told reporters.

The police handed in the rings, which had a total value of 120,000 Turkish Liras, to Adıyaman Jewelries and Moneylenders Foundations’ president Ali Yaylagül to be conveyed to the owner.

Yaylagül said the golden rings were dropped by jewelry firm officials who came from another city for business.

“We really thank this person who found the golden rings. The owners of the firm who dropped them wanted me to give him two golden rings as a gift. We present these two rings to him and his wife; he acted very humanely,” said Yaylagül while delivering the two wedding rings to Çelik.

Meanwhile, the subcontractor company also gave Çelik three days off from work as an award for his action.
