Celebrity chef Ümit Usta dies Famous Turkish chef Ümit Ömer Sevinç, known as Ümit Usta, died of a heart attack on April 19. Sevinç was working as a consultant to a food company in Istanbul’s Cevahir Shopping Mall when he suffered a heart attack. He was pronounced dead on the scene by a responding medical team.

Born in Istanbul in 1952, Sevinç was the son of Gaziantep’s famous chef, Kemal Usta, who cooked for the founder of the Turkish Republic, Mustafa Kemal Atatürk. Sevinç appeared on many cooking television programs and wrote multiple books on cooking.

Recently, Sevinç had also been giving workshops as part of many vocational education programs and also for some media companies.
