Cairo presents film panorama of Europe

Aide Begic’s film ‘Children of Sarajevo’ will be screened at the Cairo event.

Cairo today starts hosting the 5th Panorama of European Film, which will run until Oct. 9 in the Egyptian capital at the Galaxy (Manial) and Stars (City Stars) cinemas.

This year’s event can be divided into three sections. The first part is “First Films,” in which the latest critically acclaimed and award-winning European films will be shown in select cinemas, after which Q&A sessions will be organized creating an open dialogue between local audiences and the European directors.

The second part will be “Documentary Rendezvous,” giving local audiences the opportunity to view the latest and most interesting documentaries from Europe, encompassing a wide array of subjects.

The third part is “Education and Cinema,” a special program for students from numerous schools and different age groups, giving them the opportunity to watch specially selected films. This program aims primarily at nurturing youngsters’ passion for cinema and also intends to teach them the virtues of debate, artistic and critical thinking in an fast-changing Egyptian landscape.

Bosnian director Aida Begic’s film “Djeca” (Children of Sarajevo) will feature prominently at the festival.
