Snowy weather from the Balkans has begun affecting the northwestern provinces of Edirne and Kırklareli, while the Hamzabeyli Customs Gate on the Turkish-Bulgarian border was also closed to traffic yesterday due to the severe climactic conditions.

Authorities have mobilized teams to reopen the Hamzabeyli crossing into Bulgaria, as the gate has been closed to all vehicular activity since 7 a.m. yesterday.

Some 20 trailer trucks also became stuck on the road before they could make their way out of the country, as snow has already begun falling on downtown Edirne, according to reports.

More snowfall

The snow that began at Kırklareli province’s Dereköy Customs Gate on Oct. 16 also started falling on downtown Kırklareli yesterday. Officials warned that the snowfall would continue throughout the day.
