Bitlis children’s choir performs first concert

ISTANBUL - Anatolia News Agency
Sixty students in the eastern province of Bitlis’ Güroymak district’s Doğuyorum Civilization Choir have given a concert for Culture and Tourism Minister Ertuğrul Günay, Parliamentary president Cemil Çiçek and Bitlis Mayor Nurettin Yılmaz.

The choir sang 18 songs in 15 different languages. Speaking after the concert, Günay thanked to the project creator and congratulated the choir.

“The choir sang many songs in different languages. This means that love and friendship should rule in the world,” Günay said. Noting that folk songs were very important for people, Günay said: “We should give a chance to the lyrics of the folk songs of Turkey and listen to the friendship and love that they give as a massage.”

Mayor Yılmaz said he had seen and listened to many different choirs, however the Doğu Yorum Choir was a unique one, and the message it aimed to give was a very appropriate and direct one.

Speaking to the Anatolia news agency about the choir, Güroymak District Gov. Turan Yılmaz said the children were not only singing children songs but also giving messages of peace and love to society.
The choir, supported by the State Planning Institution (DPT) and the SODES Project, started in 2010.
“The project is still continuing,” said Yılmaz, adding that a total of six music teachers were training the children in the choir.
