A Kenyan mother has named her newborn twins after this year’s main U.S. presidential candidates, Barack Obama and Mitt Romney.

Millicent Owuor gave birth to twins in Kenya's southwestern district of Siaya on the day of the U.S. elections.

Inspired by this coincidence, the young Kenyan mother has named her newborn twins after the U.S. presidential rivals.

The hospital where the babies were born is a short distance from the Obama family's ancestral village.

"I named the first twin Barack and the second one Mitt," Owuor said.

Re-elected U.S. President Barack Obama's father was born in Kenya and his step-grandmother Sarah Obama still lives in the village of Kogelo.

Democratic candidate, Obama's victory was also celebrated in his ancestral village.
