A teenage girl that made headlines yesterday after footage appeared to show her giving birth as she walked down a street in Istanbul's Bağcılar district may have delivered the baby at home, daily Hürriyet reported. (You may watch the footage here)
The baby, a healthy girl who was named Ecem Ahu by hospital staff after she was brought in by police, had her umbilical cord tied up, suggesting that had already been born before earlier believed.
The footage in question depicts a lack of reaction on the part of the girl and her parents after the baby falls onto the street; instead, the three stare at the child on the sidewalk before walking away. Police officials claimed that this was strong evidence that the baby was born beforehand.
If the umbilical cord had been untied, the bleeding from it could have killed the baby, according to experts.
The parents, who are seen walking with the girl, said they did not know their daughter was pregnant. They were released after initial questioning.
‘I thought it was a blood clot’

The mother also said she had not noticed the baby as it fell on the pavement, adding that she thought it was a blood clot.
"Something fell from me," she reportedly said during questioning. "I thought it was a blood clot. I didn't know it was the baby."
After the baby fell, she returned home, changed into clean clothes and went to a hospital where the remaining parts were removed from her body, according to the testimony.
She requested that the child be given to a state agency, Hürriyet reported.
Rape claims
Initial reports identified the father as her 17-year-old boyfriend from the same neighborhood, but allegations of rape have since added to the controversy.
The older brother of the boyfriend, as well as a friend of the older brother, allegedly raped the teenager after learning that she had had sex with her boyfriend, threatening to tell her parents about it unless she complied.
The older brother was soon arrested on charges related to drug possession, while the friend has left Istanbul to conduct military service.

What an awful, gut-wrenching, and heart-breaking sight.:((( Sadly, this incidence is a testament to the prevailing societal mores-- an unimaginable display of callousness, cruelty, apathy, and inaction on part of all involved parties. The natural instinct, indeed, would have been to immediately check upon the well-being of the child. The drop alone on to the hard pavement could have have proven fatal, but miraculously, the baby survived! I sincerely pray the kid gets a loving and caring home.

I was getting angrier and angrier as I watched this footage - why, when it would be my first instinct, did no-one lift the baby, for a second I thought the woman was taking off her scarf in order to wrap and cradle the baby, but no! Shocking and abhorant is every bit of this footage (was that Police or Ambulance that arrived first? ..... they didn't even do anything to help that innocent baby. Apart from calling the emergency services, there was not an ounce of humanity shown by anyone.

Expect more backward behavior once the abortion ban is in place. Somethings never change. These "men" all need to be in prison as well as this girl's parents. She should be adopted by a family that will love and honor her. Next you'll be reading about her murder by her own family. That will be next week Part II

Also - it must have been preborn as the unbilical cord has been diconnected. She was not carrying the baby as the footage shows her hands free. So it must have been in her underwear and slipped out. We dont know the age of the mother in her teens, but obviously she is uneducated (I hate to say backward) when she doesnt know a baby from a bloodclot. PM wants more babies - why? Uneducated mums give birth to egotistic males and the girls know only to be subservient . Vote winner. Doom for Turkiye

A full 7 minutes before the newborn is picked up. Bless her, she is a miracle and hopefully awarded to parents who will love and cherish. Still finding it a challenge to understand why the rapists who are of course at fault are more guilty than the mother and parents who abandoned the baby - PM does this not constitute murder? At least wrap her up and leave at the mosque or hospital. PM - good luck with your abortion ban. There are already enough unloved, unwanted and disadvantaged kids.

They need locking up and they key throwing away. I'm surprised it took so long for anybody to actually pick up the baby too!!!!!
