Austrian 'ice cream murderer' gives birth

VIENNA - Agence France-Presse
A woman in jail in Austria awaiting trial after police found the bodies of two men in the cellar of her ice cream parlour has given birth, prison authorities said Wednesday.

"Mother and child are doing well," said Peter Prechtl, head of the Vienna prison where Goidsargi Estibaliz Carranza Zabala, 32, who has joint Spanish and Mexican citizenship, has been behind bars since mid-2011.

The woman, accused of killing and dismembering her ex-husband and a former boyfriend, packing their bodies in concrete in the cellar of her Vienna shop, was taken from jail to hospital in order to give birth.

She will not be allowed to keep the baby with her however, with authorities saying the father -- who is not behind bars and who has applied to marry the alleged killer in prison -- will bring up the child when the mother goes back to jail.
