Assailants open fire on police in Istanbul, injure two

Two police officers were injured early on Nov. 8 in Istanbul when unknown assailants opened fire on a police vehicle.

The incident occurred after police officers inside two patrol vehicles stopped a white car for inspection in Istanbul’s Gaziosmanpaşa district at around 1 a.m. Five assailants inside the car opened fire on the police officers. 

Two police officers, only identified by the initials E.A. and S.T., were injured in their feet in the attack, while the police vehicle was also badly damaged. 

The injured officers were taken to hospital after the incident and are reported to be in a good condition.

A number of police teams, including the special operations police, were deployed to the scene after the attack.

A wide-scale operation has been opened by security forces in the region to apprehend the unknown assailants.
