Armed Forces thankful for ‘support’

The Turkish Armed Forces (TSK) expressed its thanks to the “Turkish nation,” for support shown to the Turkish Army in the form of messages and letters “demanding to join the army in its fight against terrorists,” in a statement published on the General Staff’s website yesterday.

“Many sensitive citizens who have completed their military service have expressed their desire to join Turkish soldiers in their fight against terrorists,” the statement read. “These requests, which show a willingness to participate in the struggle against those ones who target our nation and country’s unity and very existence, are proof of our [people’s] love for our land, nation and flag.”

The determination of Turkish soldiers is strengthened by these messages, the statement said.

One police killed

One police was killed and two civilians were injured in an assault made towards a vehicle by long barreled weapons in the eastern province of Tunceli on 11 October. Meanwhile an air-supported military operation in Tunceli, to stop bombing attacks by the outlawed Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK), is continuing.

Military officials said they had discovered new PKK groups in the operation area, including some top PKK officials. This was presented as the chief cause of the expansion of the operation
