Ninety percent of the Antalya Aquarium, built by the Antalya Metropolitan Municipality and said to be one of the largest aquariums in Europe, has been finished.
In a written statement, Mayor Mustafa Akaydın said the foundation of the aquarium had been laid on Nov. 29 2011 in Arapsuyu Olbia Canyon. He said the aquarium would be one of the biggest attraction centers in the city when completed. He also added that the construction of the aquarium tank and Europe’s longest aquarium tunnel had already been finished.
He said sea creatures and fish brought from Singapore would be put in the aquarium at the end of this month.
“The underwater decoration of the aquarium is being designed by the world renowned Italian sculptor Benedetti. The decoration that he made in South Africa has been brought here and begun to be placed in the aquarium. In particular, a real-size propeller plane model will drawn the attention of guests,” Akaydın said in the statement.
The aquarium is being established on a 12,000 square meter closed area and cost 85 million Turkish Liras to build.
