Akyavaş sold for record prize

Paintings by some of the most important modern and contemporary Turkish artists were sold at an auction by Antik A.Ş. on Nov. 18. One of the highlights of the sale was Erol Akyavaş’s “Fallen City,” a monumental canvas from 1982. The painting was sold for 1.3 million Turkish Liras. It had an estimated value of $300,000 to $400,000 and was expected to generate tremendous excitement among buyers.

The offering also featured the work of premier Turkish artists including Fahrel Nisa Zeid, Burhan Doğançay, Mubin Orhon, Ferruh Başağa and Adnan Çoker. The works by these artists also drew great interest from buyers.
