Turkey's unique lakes lure visitors
Turkey's unique lakes lure visitors
Turkey is home to many pristine lakes, some close to mountains' summits, some located in lush meadows, and some surrounded by breathtaking forests.
Lake Meşeli Karagöl: Located in the Artvin province, the lake within the Sahara-Meşeli Karagöl National Park is a great alternative for those who want to camp within the greenery, without all the heat from the summer.
Lake Big Sea: Positioned perfectly on the outskirts of Kaçkar Mountains, Lake Big Sea offers enchanting scenery with its high altitude, Picturesque greenery and crystal clear waters. Even though visitors can swim in the lake, many fail to spend many hours due to the low temperature of the water.
Lake Sarıkum: Located west of Sinop Peninsula, Lake Sarıkum is also home to a very diverse ecosystem. While it is also a lagoon, it is abundant in bird and marine species, as well as "Yılkı" horses. The region, which was taken under protection in 1987, is also home to the rare sea daffodil.
Lake Akgöl: Located near Sinop province's Ayancık district, the lake was formed by the merging of two streams at a 1,200-meter altitude. Lake Akgöl astonishes visitors with the white spruce forests surrounding it.
Lake Damar Karagöl: A favorite of photographers, this lake on the outskirts of Mount Tiryal is great for trekking and camping.
