‘Zero Waste Regulations’ published officially

Regulations on “Zero Waste Management System” which will be applied across the country were published on July 12 on the Official Gazette.

Turkey’s zero waste project, led by first lady Emine Erdoğan, aims to reduce the volume of non-recyclable waste.

The project is also listed in the Environmental Performance Review of the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development.

Public institutions and organizations will be transferred to zero waste management system on June 1, 2020, while the metropolitan district municipalities with population of more than 250,000 on Dec. 31, 2020.

“Zero waste project will be widespread with the regulations published today,” Murat Kurum, Turkey’s Environment and Urbanization Minister, said, adding that the initiatives on zero waste will “serve as a model to the world”.

It is estimated that nearly 37 million people in Turkey will benefit from the system.
