Rumors on Syrians entering Turkish universities without any examination denied

Turkey’s Higher Education Board (YÖK) has denied rumors that Syrian refugees can enter Turkish universities without having to sit any examinations.

“Recently, some social media posts on how YÖK has made a statement about Syrian refugees entering universities of their choice in our country without any examinations is certainly not real and aim to mislead our citizens,” YÖK said in a written statement.

“These contents do not reflect the current situation. YÖK did not make such a statement and it is highly unlikely that it would do so in the future as well,” the statement declared.

These social media posts that pursue “political purposes” should be disregarded and only YÖK’s official statements must be taken into account, the education board stressed.

Education for Syrian refugees and especially refugee children are pressing issues Turkey’s education board has been facing.
