A worker has died and five others have been injured in an explosion at a mining site in the Central Anatolian province of Kayseri.

Yusuf Kaygısız, 38, died while Ahmet Çiftçi, Yasin Çiftçi, Kandemir Yıldırım, Cezmi Toprak and Hacı Kaygısız were injured as they removed tower cranes at an unused chrome mine in Kayseri’s Pınarbaşı district on Sept. 9, state-run Anadolu Agency reported.

The injured workers were taken to the Pınarbaşı Public Hospital for treatment.

The reason for the explosion remains unclear although initial findings suggest it might have been caused by trapped gas.
