A 15-year-old girl that was allegedly killed by her family after being raped in Diyarbakır was buried yesterday in a funeral attended by just 20 women from social and women’s associations, Doğan news agency has reported.

The body of the girl, Hatice D., was discovered in Batman Stream 11 days ago. The girl was reportedly killed when her family realized she was four months pregnant as a result of a rape allegedly conducted by two of her cousins.

The body of the girl was taken from the hospital’s morgue by her uncle and left at the cemetery, where the funeral was conducted without any of her relatives in attendance.

An investigation has been launched into the incident and the girl’s grandfather, father and two uncles have been arrested.

The two cousins, who ran away after the incident was revealed, are being sought by police, reports said.

Why do people blame Kurds for this? Are those examples we hear about in Pakistan, Afghanistan and other Muslim countries also by Kurds?

Dial it back a little. Like female circumcision, this is a cultural phenomena, not a religious one. Yes, mostly practiced by Kurds.

Turk Uzan, I wish you were right and it was just a case of one tribal culture. However, all these cases happen all over the Muslim countries in Asia, and not only in Turkey. Why ? Can you please explain to me ? Since I have not study the Koran, is there anything in this book that refers to these kind of cases ?

Let us call spades, nothing but spades. Family members behind this horrible crime are backward, illiterate idiots. Apart from being criminal cowards. They don't need any killing and raping to safeguard their so called "honour". Coz' they ain't got any "honour" to begin with. When will the always screaming PM Erdogan make big noise about this part of Turkish society? Or is it bad politics for him? A large chunk of AKP's voter base is among that section Turkey, I presume.

@mike, you seriously need to go educate yourself, since these crimes (honor and blood revenges) are part of the Middle Eastern cultures for centuries, has nothing to do with religion, since same things happen in the Middle Eastern Christian communities. This is not something that developed the last 10 years, no it was even a bigger issue last few decades, but not all were documented.

TURK UZAN I think you have to give MIKE a break! What is the percentage of Kurdish people in Turkey who are Muslim? It really doesn't matter anyway why these people are committing these barabaric offenses, the AKP breeds these kind of crimes by their support of other backward mentality regarding women. Whether ethnic, tribal or religious is not the issue.

Spot on JRC! I would also say that the extended family should have to have their homes marked with some kind of dishonorable symbol or banner for many years to come. Then they would also serve as a daily reminder of how much shame this kind of tribal justice can bring on a family. Swift punishment is the only cure for this kind of barbaric behavior.

@ Mike, this isn't Islamic as much as it is Kurdish tribal law (Tore) I don't like to make a racial issue out of this, but let's face the facts. 99% of the time when you hear such thing happen or some obsessive boyfriend kills his girl friend. It's from a Kurdish majority area or they are migrants from Kurdish majority area's. Cousins, Father, Uncles were probably all involved (it was a family decision). The whole family should get for life, make an example out of them.

How very sad, how very backward, how very sickening that these kind of brutalities still take place in the 21st centrury. I hope all responsible for her rape and murder will be locked up in prison for life!!
